Saving localities across the nation $46.9 billion per year.

Yet over the past 30 years, the number of volunteer firefighters has declined, while call volume continues to increase.

It is critical for the safety of our communities and our nation that we continue to have a strong volunteer fire service now and in the future.

The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC), through a federal SAFER grant, has developed this national recruitment and retention campaign to put research-based, ready-to-use tools and resources in the hands of local departments. We want make the process of recruiting new volunteers as easy as possible for local departments.

This Fire Department Portal was created specifically to help local volunteer and combination fire and rescue departments recruit and retain volunteers.

Through this portal, you can:

Enter your existing volunteer opportunities into a database searchable to potential volunteers through MakeMeAFirefighter.org, AllForGood.org, and other volunteer search sites

Customize marketing materials with your department-specific information for use in your community

Access additional resources, tips, and recruitment ideas to make your local campaign a success
